Viceroy

(Limenitis archippus)

A viceroy sits on partridge pea, a common summer prairie wildflower.

Viceroys are often confused with the popular and better-known monarch.

Don't feel bad, because viceroys count on predators, such as birds, believing that viceroys taste just as bad as monarchs.

Take note of the second black band across the hind wing. Monarchs don't have this.
