Hoary Vervain

(Verbena stricta)

 

Different species of vervain are adapted to different habitats. Hoary vervain is the upland species for drier areas.

Two other species, Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata) and White Vervain (Verbene urticifolia L.)

are also present in Anderson Prairie. This plant was photographed near one of the sothernmost entrances to Anderson Prairie Park.

Butterflies love the flowers of the Verbena Genus.
