Spiderwort

(Tradescantia ohioensis)

Spiderwort can be seen at various places in Anderson Prairie in late spring and early summer. It is esecially prevalent along the Wildflower Trail. Look for the cluster of purple flowers at the top of the stalk. Leaves are narrow, and to the novice observer, look a bit like the leaves of an iris. They are not related, however.

Spiderwort is also a common garden plant, and is easy to find at plant nurseries or native plant sales.

At Anderson Prairie, spiderwort is among the first wildflowers to bloom, providing a preview of the prairie's summer color display.
