Rattlesnake Master

(Eryngium yuccifolium)

If you were playing the child's game, "One of These Things is Not Like the Other," rattlesnake master would probably be the odd plant out on the prairie.

It seems as though it would be more at home in the desert Southwest than the midwestern prairie.

Its foliage has been described as similar to that of the yucca, hence the latin name: Eryngium yuccifolium. However, rattlesnake master is actually a member of the parsley family.

Look for rattlesnake master in abundance along the wildflower trail in mid-summer.
