Preservation of remaining prairie habitat is essential to
the survival of butterflies like the beautiful regal fritillary,
that are restricted to prairie environments.
The variegated fritillary (bottom) also occurs in Anderson
Prairie.
Fritillary caterpillars feed mostly on violets.
