False Dragonhead

(Physostegia virginiana)

This is the "obedient plant" that is well-known to gardeners. It gets its name from the fact that the individual flowers can be moved by the finger and actually stay where you put them.

Some gardeners complain, however, that obedient plant is

less than obedient in the garden. It colonizes a site quickly; too aggressively for some. Gardeners are advised to give this plant some competition.

Look for false dragonhead or obedient plant along Chesnut street.
