Canada Wild Rye

(Elymus canadensis)

Canada wild rye, also known as nodding rye, is a short-lived perennial prairie grass. It is often used as a "cover crop" during prairie reconstructions because it grows rapidly, thus stabilizing the soil and preventing weeds

from choking out the new prairie seedlings.

Look for Canada wild rye in several places in Anderson Prairie Park. This picture was taken just south of the main entrance driveway.
