Golden Alexanders

(Zizia aurea)

Golden Alexanders are one of the earliest blooming prairie plants. They are members of the parsley family, and therefore can serve as host plants for black swallowtail butterfly caterpillars.

Look for golden Alexanders in several places around Anderson Prairie from mid-spring through early summer.

For the prairie gardener, check mail order outlets for this plant.
