The Tallgrass Butterfly House at Anderson Prairie Park in Pana opens to the public June 2, 2008. Collecting trips by Dave Nance's biology class have resulted in the house being well-stocked wtih butterflies. Larvae are beginning to appear and some butterflies like the viceroy are already emerging More than 300 indiviuals representing 23 species have been collected. Hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The butterfly house will operate on donations frm the public. The butterfly house will be open to the public through Aug. 27, and open by appointment for scheduled school and civic groups through Oct. 4. The Tallgrass Butterfly House is just off Chestnut Street, about 1/2 mile south of Pana High School. Contact David Nance for more information. |
